Chester City 0 FC Halifax Town 3: Aspin delighted as Halifax turn on style

FC Halifax Town manager Neil Aspin was effusive in his praise for the Shaymen as they returned to the top of the Conference Premier.

Halifax played Chester off the park to maintain their 100 per cent start – just Chelsea, Swansea and Morecambe have also won all their games so far in the top five divisions.

Richard Peniket, Scott Boden and Matt Pearson scored for Halifax and Aspin was delighted. “It was a very good performance. From start to finish, I thought we were excellent.

“I felt we showed the other side of our game today where we passed it a lot more than we have done in the previous three games.

“I can’t give the players enough praise, I thought they were excellent today.”

Peniket, making his first start, should have got the visitors off to a dream start but blazed over when unmarked 10 yards out. That heralded a frenetic start by Aspin’s side as they came racing out of the blocks.

Chester goalkeeper Freddy Hall kept out efforts by Steve Williams and Jamie Jackson but could do nothing when Peniket fired home from Pearson’s low cross.

An exquisite through ball by Marshall released Boden just before half-time, but his shot was deflected wide.

Chester were unable to cope and Boden was left free to deftly head in Marc Roberts’s cross midway through the second half.

Pearson then raced clear to cap a tremendous performance by finishing calmly.
