Debutant Danny Hattersley scored twice, with Scott Boden, Paul Marshall and Adam Smith also finding the net as Halifax maintained their unbeaten home start to the season.

Aspin said: “To win by five goals at any level is impressive, but especially in this league.

“The victory today makes it a good week. I wasn’t too disappointed with the draw against Grimsby in midweek, I thought that was a good point.

“But it’s only a good point if you then follow it up with three points in your next game and that’s what we’ve done.

“I’m delighted to get the goals. We haven’t scored many in the last few games. We changed the formation a bit today and it’s been a good response.”

Aspin was linked to the manager’s job at former club Port Vale last week after Micky Adams’s departure, but said his only focus is on his job at the Shay.

He said: “It’s been a difficult week because I keep getting linked with jobs and it does unsettle you because there’s always somebody ringing me up and asking what’s happening.

“But I enjoy my job here. I’ve said all along I was focused on this game, which I have been, trying to get the three points, which we’ve done, and I’ll continue to do that.

“Anything to do with other clubs and speculation is completely out of my hands, it’s not for me to decide.”
