Guiseley picked up another point as they drew 1-1 away to Barrow, while Halifax remain without a point after a 1-0 defeat at Tranmere.

In a clash of the two sides who gained promotion from the National League North last season, Guiseley started brightly but it was the hosts who took the lead when Andy Cook’s header was saved by Steven Drench but the ball fell to Jason Walker who was able to stab the ball home.

It looked like the visitors would be going in behind at half-time, but Nicky Boshell hit a great free-kick which beat the wall and went into the top corner leaving the Barrow goalkeeper Dixon with absolutely no chance.

The start of the second half saw both sides have a good chance to take the lead but, in the end both sides seemed content with the point which for Guiseley means the side have now gone three games unbeaten.

At Tranmere, the hosts were the better side and threatened to take the lead long before Andy Mangan’s goal with 15 minutes remaining.

But Halifax can reflect on a resilient performance full of endeavour.

Tranmere didn’t take long to emphasise their quality on the ball, with Jonny Margetts turning on a sixpence inside the box before drilling the ball across goal and wide.

For all their confidence going forward, there was a touch of nerves about the hosts at the back, not helped when Martin Riley’s attempted clearance hit Ritchie Sutton and almost looped over Scott Davies.

The impressive Margetts was then twice denied in quick succession by Glennon, first after linking-up well with Mangan, then his header was tipped over from a corner.

Sean Tuton led a superb counter-attack from a Tranmere corner, with Town briefly outnumbering Rovers as they broke forward, but it petered out and Halifax were eventually caught offside.

Moments later, the breakthrough finally came at the other end when Mangan latched onto a delightful lay-off by Ridehalgh before charging into the box and calmly slipping the ball past Glennon.
