The Shaymen are the only side in the top division of non-League without a point to their name but the narrow midweek loss at much-fancied Tranmere Rovers was an improvement in terms of performance.

Ahead of today’s visit by Vanarama National League newcomers Bromley, manager Neil Aspin admits plenty of hard work has been going on behind the scenes to kick-start Halifax’s season.

“I played for 20 years as a player and it didn’t always run smoothly,” said Aspin. “But the one thing that I would never do was to throw the towel in.

“It is a challenge, but I am certainly up for the challenge and the players have to make sure that they do what they did against Tranmere.

“We are obviously working hard to turn things around and the players are working hard. As long as they’ve got that spirit and their heads don’t drop then we can get of out of the position that we are in.

“We can’t focus too much on what Bromley have got, we have to try and get our own game in order and try to win.”

Long-term absentee Richard Peniket is the only player missing through injury as Halifax look to claim their first points of the campaign.

Aspin added: “We need a bit of luck in front of goal and we need to take the lead, because the four previous games have seen us fall behind.

“We need to take the lead and build on it. Once we can get one result, then we can turn things around.”

In contrast to Halifax, neighbours Guiseley have enjoyed an impressive start to life with a seven-point haul from the opening four games.

The Lions, who have netted three goals this term, host Aldershot with manager Mark Bower looking to add a more polished edge to his side’s attacking play.
