Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Forest Green Rovers came a year to the day since losing to the same opposition at the New Lawn.

Halifax then followed that reverse to Forest Green by thrashing Grimsby 4-0 at The Shay. With the Mariners back in Halifax tonight, Aspin is calling on his players to pull off a notable repeat.

He said: “We played Grimsby at the same time last year after losing at Forest Green so we have to try and get the same response. That said, no two games are the same and this will be a tough one.”

Grimsby’s visit will be the fourth game his part-time squad have played in 10 days so Aspin may be tempted to tweak things after the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat.

The Shaymen chief admitted his side had been second best. He added: “Just like everyone, you have to be at your best to win games. We were robbed of the win on Tuesday (at Macclesfield) when we all thought we had won it at the end.

“But you have get over things like that. You do have days where you are below-par, you just have to make sure you don’t have too many of them.”
