Harrogate-born Leah Galton's player of the month award shows Manchester United winger's adaptability at a higher level

Harrogate's Leah Galton has shown her adaptability and the fact she belongs at the top level of English women's football by being named the Women's Super League's Barclays Player of the Month for December.

The 26 year-old Manchester United left-winger scored four goals in three matches last month.

“I don't look so much at stats and assists, I look at the contribution players make and she's a deserving winner,” said Yorkshire Post columnist Sue Smith, who was on the voting panel. "She got my vote.

“Leah's one of those players where whenever you watch her you think something can happen whenever she's on the ball. Considering Manchester United have brought in some super-stars, she is always one of the stand-out players.

“She was brilliant in the Championship and it can be difficult when you step up a league but she's just continued that form.

“As a former winger myself I've been impressed that she's done a brilliant job at left-back at times too. I know how difficult that is but she's just got on with it.”
