Eight-goal top-scorer Jack Muldoon aside, the Sulphurites’ forwards have disappointed in the final third in recent months.

Following a bright start to their first-ever season as an EFL club, Harrogate have won just once in nine League Two outings, netting only six times in the process.

Aaron Martin and Lloyd Kerry both have three goals to their names, but all bar one of those strikes arrived early in the season, at a time when points and wins were coming a lot more easily than they have in recent weeks.

Asked whether it was time that some of his other forward players started weighing-in with goals, Weaver replied: “I agree, 100 per cent. We have been too reliant on Jack Muldoon.

“The stats don’t lie. This isn’t me being critical, just brutally honest. Our centre-forwards have got to start getting on the end of things.

“We have been involved in a lot of tight games and lost a fair few by the odd goal. We’ve been happy with many of the performances. You can get your shape right, be organised, defend well, pass the ball, be tenacious but at the end of the day you need players at the top end putting the ball in the back of the net.

“How many opportunities do we need to score a goal? Too many at the moment. Jack’s doing his bit, but we need the others to start sticking their chances away.

“That’s the challenge for the other forwards. As an attacker, if you want to be able to say you’re nailing your job in League Two, you’ve got to contribute and be getting on the score-sheet.”
