Hill having to hold fire over Forest strike pair Tudgay and McGoldrick

Barnsley manager Hill, working to bolster his forward department with top-scorer Craig Davies out injured, has enquired about ex-Sheffield Wednesday frontman Tudgay, but he is still recuperating from a double hernia operation.

Meanwhile, any movement on McGoldrick would not occur until early January, with the 24-year-old currently having two months left of a half-year loan at Coventry City.

On the Forest duo, Hill said: “They are two players that long term or short term, I would be keen to recruit. But they are Nottingham Forest players.

“I had a chat with Sean O’Driscoll after the game (last weekend) and they possibly would be available, but we have not taken care of business yet.

“We have also had a possibility of bringing a player in from a Premier League club, but he has other options or ambitions.

“But I am more than happy to work with the players I have got.”

Positive developments have seen Hill’s hand strengthened ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire derby at Hull, with long-term injury victims Jim O’Brien, Toni Silva and Mido – yet to feature this term – back in training along with Jim McNulty and Martin Crainie.

While all are short on match fitness, Hill concedes he may have to take a risk and throw them into the fray sooner rather than later.

He added: “They are potentially available, but they have not played any game time and that is where it is difficult. But we will have to play them at some point.

“I will have to take the risk, there is no question about that, when I feel as though it is right.

“It is great to see them on the training pitch and it is competition for places and when the players who have been playing see them training, it is a stimulant.”
