Hill targets more loans to join Tudgay at Tykes

The Barnsley boss, whose side are one place above the relegation positions in the Championship following a run of one win in nine league games, remains in the market for players and has revealed he also made an abortive move to bring in Peterborough United pair Tyrone Barnett and Emile Sinclair.

Rotherham United have also enquired about the duo, transfer-listed along with two other Posh players by boss Darren Ferguson for going on an unauthorised night out last weekend.

Hill explained: “I want to see at least two, if not three, new 
players before next Thursday’s deadline.

“I want to improve our fortunes over the Christmas period.

“It has been difficult – and still is – and if we can recruit over the next week, it is important we do so.”

Hill admits he is delighted to finally sign ex-Sheffield Wednesday forward Tudgay, who has joined the Reds initially on loan until January with a view to a permanent deal.

And the Reds chief is hopeful Tudgay will form a successful combination with Craig Davies, on the recovery trail following a hamstring injury.

Hill, who will monitor Davies’s fitness today ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Bolton, said: “Marcus is a player I have admired since watching him at Sheffield Wednesday and Derby and is someone I have always wanted to work with.

“He represents great value for money and will be an asset. He will bring a different dimension to our team.

“It is a short-term deal with a possibility of long-term success. With Craig Davies nearing fitness as well, I want him to be compatible with Craig.”
