Home double could help Terriers find winning formula

The Terriers, without a win since November 19, host Chesterfield today and Carlisle United on Friday as the Yorkshire club look to strengthen their push for promotion.

Clark said: “Without being disrespectful to our opponents, our next two home games are winnable. Chesterfield are a good attacking team and play under John Sheridan’s principles.

“Carlisle always give us a tough game, whether it is at home or away. But I think at home, after getting the Bournemouth game out of our system with the Sheffield Wednesday performance (when Town drew 4-4), it gives us a chance to put together a run of points.”

Having two home games over the festive season this year is a welcome change for Clark compared to previous seasons. In 2010, for instance, Town had to travel to Southampton on December 28, while two years ago they were left frustrated by the late postponement of the Boxing Day game at Carlisle United.

The Town manager added: “It is good to have two home games over the festive period. During my time at the club, we have had some interesting journeys to say the least.

“But the people at the Football League have been kinder to us this year. In terms of training, we will be in as normal. The lads will also show the same amount of intensity – it will be just like any other training sessions.”

The back-to-back home games are the last before the January transfer window opens and Clark has hinted that the Terriers may be looking to bolster their ranks.

He said: “It is important that if we make a move for any player, that he is the right type of player.”

Huddersfield will again look to man of the moment Jordan Rhodes, who this week finished third in the Yorkshire Sports Performer of the Year, to lead the attack as Clark’s side try to end a winless run of three games.

On his 19-goal top scorer, Clark said: “He took his four goals at Hillsborough superbly and his link-up play was excellent.

“I went in for a drink with the Sheffield Wednesday management after the game and spoke to Andy, Jordan’s dad.

“I made sure he wasn’t planning on giving Jordan a telling-off when he saw him later on in the night. I have spoken about the situation with my staff and I am sure that Andy will have been sat on the Wednesday bench feeling immensely proud of what his son had done.”
