Huddersfield Town

Hamer -

Brave early block to deny Mendez-Laing but came at a cost with the ‘keeper requiring lengthy treatment. Substituted a few minutes later.

Hadergjonaj 6

Got forward as often as possible but his final ball wasn’t good enough. Worked hard at the back, particularly in those closing stages as Cardiff took control.

Jorgensen 7

Back in the side after a muscle injury and kept busy during the final half hour. Vital block to prevent Reid’s late shot trickling towards goal.

Schindler 7

Some vital interception as Cardiff took control following Hogg’s red card. Kept a cool head amid that late pressure from the visitors.

Kongolo 8

The pick of the bunch for Town, both in attack and at the back. Rifled a shot into the side netting in the early stages but his true value was at the back when the Terriers were down to ten men. Pulled off two vital last ditch tackles.

Billing 6

Plenty of effort but lacked polish when in possession. Did plenty of running after the red card.

Hogg 5

Worked hard but then clashed with Harry Arter, the officials deeming the Town man to have head-butted the Bluebirds midfielder to earn a red card.

Diakhaby 5

Started on the left flank in what was his first start for Town but soon switched flanks. Unable to make much impact at all, his first touch being poor at times.

Mooy 6

Saw plenty of the ball in midfield but struggled to make any inroads on a well organised visitors’ defence. His commitment illustrated with a superb tackle on Ralls near the end that prevented the Cardiff man getting a shot away.

Van la Parra 5

Looked to be through on goal after springing offside trap only for Mounie to take ball off him and immediately be ruled offside. Almost played his side into trouble late on with an awful back pass.

Mounie 6

Brought a flying save from Etheridge with a powerful header just after half-time but had to feed on scraps for much of the afternoon against a big and powerful defence. Substituted.

Substitutes

Lossl (for Hamer 13) 7

Denied Ward with a fine save as Cardiff pushed for the winner. Had one scare when recklessly rushed from his line but Kongolo held up play to allow him to get back.

Mbenza (for Diakhaby 68) 5

Has plenty of pace but looks raw with the ball at his feet.

Depoitre (for Mounie 80) -

Won a couple of aerial challenges and but for a Bamba touch could have had a late chance to steal all three points.
