Huddersfield Town 0 Ipswich Town 0: drab draw fails to drastically aid Terriers cause

New Huddersfield manager Mark Robins sprang a surprise as he dropped right-back Jack Hunt for this Championship relegation battle.

Anthony Gerrard returned to central defence alongside Peter Clarke with Paul Dixon and Calum Woods given the full-back roles.

Oscar Gobern made his first start of the season in midfield after an ankle operation.

Lee Novak and James Vaughan were up front with Theo Robinson on the bench after returning to the club on loan from Derby County until the end of the season.

It was a scrappy first half and neither goalkeeper was tested until James Vaughan shot at Stephen Henderson in the 45th minute.

Scott Arfield also had a shot blocked in stoppage time but Novak had wasted Huddersfield’s best chance when he fired wide after racing onto a through ball from Adam Clayton.

Henderson made a double save from Novak and Neil Danns before Robinson entered the fray shortly before the hour mark for Novak.

Robinson fluffed a golden chance for Town but opportunities were rare at either end.

Both sides used three substitutes but the game ended goalless.

Terriers boss Mark Robins saw room for improvement after his side failed to break down an opponent dead set on a draw.

“I thought we controlled it in fairness. I think we tried to pass; they didn’t try to pass it,” he said.

“They came came for a point and got a point. We tried to get all three of them.

“There’s a little bit of a lack of confidence and the surface doesn’t help when you try to pass it but we tried.

“We had about seven shots on target and some good opportunities to score but we didn’t take any of them.

“That’s why it’s only a point and not three.”
