Huddersfield Town 1 Bury 1: Terriers suffer Lowe equaliser

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN were forced to settle for a point after a disappointing opening day display against newly-promoted Bury, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

The Terriers did take the lead through Gary Roberts during the second half only to be pegged back by a typically predatory strike by Ryan Lowe.

In truth, Bury were full value for their point after impressing with a battling display.

Town made the breakthrough on 65 minutes courtesy of some excellent work down the right by substitute Lee Novak and a cute finish from Gary Roberts.

That should have been that but, instead, Bury roared back at their hosts and only a goal-line clearance from Peter Clarke prevented David Worrall from equalising 15 minutes from time.

It was a major let-off for Huddersfield but not a warning they heeded with Bury equalising just 60 seconds later when Ryan Lowe was allowed to turn in the six-yard box and finish from close range.

Ian Bennett then had to bravely save from Andy Bishop before Town were denied a late winner when Cameron Belford somehow clawed away a miscued clearance by defender Mark Hughes to ensure the scores remained level.
