Coming on the back of Town’s 2-0 defeat at Hull City in their Championship opener on Saturday it marks a terrible start for the Terriers.

Noble levelled the scores with a 25-yard strike on 42 minutes after Murray Wallace netted the opener for hosts Huddersfield in the 35th.

Kyle Da Silva romped down the left and pulled the ball back for Noble, who drilled low into the bottom left corner.

Noble’s 56th-minute winner was an audacious 35-yard lob from the right touchline which drew applause from home fans.

Noble is one of the survivors of boss Ricardo Moniz’s revolution at the relegated League Two side.

Gill Swerts, one of 18 summer recruits, was sent off for two yellow cards in five minutes mid-way through the second half.

The first was for a foul on Harry Bunn and the second was for a harsh-looking claim of handball on the edge of the box.

It is the second time County have had a player red-carded this season after Mawouna Amevor went for an early bath in the 2-0 win at Stevenage on Saturday.

Huddersfield took the lead on 34 minutes when Wallace headed in Bunn’s corner when unmarked at the far post.

County keeper Roy Carroll tipped over long range drives from Bunn and Ishmael Miller early on and then parried a 25-yard volley from Nahki Wells on 87 minutes.

Huddersfield boss Chris Powell was left downbeat.

“We have to handle the pressure,” he said.

“This is something that we did not want to happen. We wanted a win to get our season up and running but we came up against
a keeper who rolled back the years.

“It was one of those evenings but we have to dust ourselves down and go again against Blackburn on Saturday.”

Powell described Noble’s strike as “a great goal at any level” and added: “We created chances to get an equaliser and the players were almost trying too hard to force the ball in.

“I was looking for the players to step up and give me food for thought. It’s not a night I have enjoyed.”
