Carlos Corberan has praised the work Leigh Bromby and others have done in Huddersfield Town’s academy to make his job coaching the first team that much easier.

This season the Terriers have followed a policy of trying to develop young players and, four points off the Championship play-offs, it appears to be paying dividends.

On Tuesday, they were without experienced central defenders Richard Stearman and Christopher Schindler through injury. Corberan handed a second league start to 21-year-old Rarmani Edmonds-Green, who produced an assured performance in the 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

“Our academy has been working well over the last few years,” said Spaniard Corberan, who has taken over at a time of real belt-tightening.

“Bromby (now academy manager) has been working well with the academy. When you have a good academy you can select players with good abilities.

“As a first team we are now receiving the work of the academy. We want to work as a club with the same idea and same identity and always have the transition from academy to the first team.

“All the players we have in the club, not just the first team, feel comfortable with the ball and that’s why we can control the games and show personality.”

Town’s other home-grown starter, Lewis O’Brien, also performed well on Tuesday.

“He’s a special player in terms of the effort he’s able to put in every day,” said Corberan. “He is special because of the humility that he has.

“We’re happy to have him because he’s one of the most important players here.”
