The B team was set up in place of an under-23s side in the summer to better bridge the gap between the junior and senior ranks. Worthington has been promoted from the academy to work in it, as well as taking the under-17s.

Dewsbury-born midfielder Worthington made over 200 appearances for Huddersfield from 2002 to 2009, and also had spells with Bradford City and Halifax Town.

Oran Thompson has been given a role assisting Worthington and new under-17 coach George Danaher, whilst former Sheffield United, Leeds United and Barnsley midfielder Michael Tonge will continue to work with the older academy players.

"We’ve known the intention was for Danny Schofield to move to a first team coaching role for some time, which is great news for the academy,” said its manager Emyr Humphreys.

"We’ve already seen how important the link between the two has been this season, with over 15 per cent of first team minutes played coming from academy graduates and five debuts so far, and Danny’s appointment only strengthens that.

“We want the best coaches working with our players and we always look to who we could bring in to supplement that, but the internal appointments of Jon and George were the obvious choices.

"They have proven what high-quality coaches they are over the last couple of seasons and they totally understand the club’s coaching philosophies, having helped to create and deliver them.

“They both understand the culture of the club, too, having been here for extended periods.”

As well as confirming Schofield's move last month, Huddersfield also gave Corberan and his lieutenants Jorge Alarcon and Narcis Pelach contract extensions until 2024 in recognition of the work they have done since coming to the club in July. The Terriers are 13th in the Championship, 12 points above the relegation zone.
