The Town chief is keen to augment his numbers and improve his squad depth and has financial resources at his disposal following the £1.5m sale of Alex Smithies, who makes a quick-fire return to Huddersfield with his new club at the weekend.

A number of names have been linked with potential beat-the-deadline moves to Town, with the latest one being Middlesbrough winger Mustapha Carayol, who is being tipped to make a move to West Yorkshire.

On the likelihood of incoming business before the window closes at 6pm on Tuesday - without mentioning any names - Powell said: “We know we need reinforcements and it is what we are batting away to resolve as we speak.

“I am hopeful we may get a player over the line (by the weekend).

“Of course, we have until very early next week and the weekend will be busy as well as the game. Sunday and Monday will (also) be busy days for us.

“Let’s hope we can get some players in permanently and on loan by Tuesday.”

Powell is also hopeful of adding several newcomers ahead of the 6pm deadline for summer transfer window business on Tuesday.

He said there are no fresh developments regarding Jacob Butterfield, subject of two failed bids from Derby County - and he is anxious for the situation to stay that way by Tuesday evening.
