Huddersfield Town: Terriers expected to complete Gerrard signing

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN are expected to complete the signing of Cardiff City defender Anthony Gerrard today after having a £350,000 bid accepted.

Out-of-favour Bluebirds player Gerrard, 26, cousin of Liverpool and England captain Steven, had been a target for Town’s Championship rivals Leicester, Millwall and Bristol City, but Simon Grayson has won the race for his services.

Gerrard, who has agreed a three-year deal, could now line up against his old club on the opening night of the new season on Friday week when Cardiff host Town.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United are expected to firm up their interest in Blackburn striker Nick Blackman ahead of Saturday’s Capital One Cup clash with Burton Albion - with boss Danny Wilson keen to bolster his striking options further despite the signings of Shaun Miller and John Cofie.

City neighbours Sheffield Wednesday have yet to receive international clearance from the Scottish Football Association following their capture of young Rangers midfielder Rhys McCabe and he is not expected to figure in the Owls’ friendly at Kilmarnock tonight as the wrangle continues.

Friendly action last night saw a makeshift Barnsley side - which included trialists Ibrahima Sonko and Stocksbridge winger Scott Hogan - lost out 1-0 to Crewe, while a Doncaster Rovers XI crashed 4-0 at Gainsborough Trinity.

Rovers’ starting line-up included Robbie Blake, Paul Keegan and trialists Karl Hawley and Amari Morgan-Smith.

An Alex Revell brace and a striker from newcomer Kieran Agard helped Rotherham United win 3-1 at Stamford, while York City beat a young Sunderland XI 3-0.

Hull City drew 0-0 with Norwich City.
