Huddersfield Town v Colchester United: Town chief Clark is looking for a double tonic

The Terriers host Colchester United today still smarting from Tuesday's 4-0 thrashing by Carlisle United, a result that has all but ended the Yorkshire club's hopes of reaching Wembley.

Following the humbling manner of that defeat in Cumbria, Clark is determined his players use the sobering experience as a stimulus to strengthen Town's push for promotion against the U's at the Galpharm Stadium.

The Huddersfield chief said: "Tuesday night was very disappointing but we can't live in the past. We have to move forward.

"We can use this result to affect our future and motivate us not to experience anything like that again. All I am thinking about is picking up three points against Colchester, which will either move us away from the chasing pack, help narrow the gap on Brighton or do both. That is a fantastic incentive for us."

Town are looking to complete a league double over Colchester after winning 3-0 in Essex last October. If they can get one over John Ward's side for a second time this season, it will serve to strengthen the Terriers' hold on second place.

Clark said: "Our away win at Colchester was, in my opinion, one of our best performances and results of the season.

"We will have to repeat that kind of performance if we are going to get anything out of this game.

"This season, Colchester have been very tough to beat so it will be tough for my players. But they are definitely up for it."

Clark has responded to Alex Smithies being ruled out for at least a month following knee surgery by re-signing former Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Colgan on loan until the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has been without a club since leaving Grimsby Town on January 7 and is likely to be on the bench today.

Colgan had a short loan spell at the Galpharm Stadium in October as cover when England Under-21 goalkeeper Smithies had a time out injured.

Clark said: "Nick fitted right into the group when he joined us on loan earlier in the season and with Alex unfortunately set to miss out for at least a month, it was an easy decision to bring Nick back for the rest of the season."
