Huddersfield Town v Tranmere Rovers: Town resilience pleases Clark but he sees room for improvement

LEE CLARK admits Huddersfield Town have “lots to improve” despite starting the League One season unbeaten.

The Terriers have won two and drawn four of their opening half dozen games this term and sit seventh. With Tranmere Rovers, who are one point and two places above Town, due at the Galpharm Stadium today it means Huddersfield are, as manager Clark admits, in for a “tough test”.

And to prevail, the Town manager believes his players must improve at both ends of the field.

He said: “We have lots to improve. We are still frustrated with the types of goals that we keep conceding.

“We conceded another poor one against Oldham (last weekend in a 1-1 draw) from lots of different aspects.

“There were three or four errors on our part, which need to be eradicated very quickly. As a team we (also) need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

“I believe that we have given away four points in the away games at Rochdale and Oldham. We missed three or four glaring opportunities at Oldham to put the game to bed.

“And at Rochdale, we were 2-1 up in injury time. You look back at those and you think three or four more points would put us in the top three, looking very good with a home game to come.

“However, what we have shown is that we can come back, which is what pleased me last Saturday. The team were right under the cosh during the opening part of the game and Huddersfield Town teams from the past may have buckled under that pressure.

“But my team didn’t. The players realised what they had to do. They came out fighting, got the equaliser and I think it was fair to say dominated the remainder of the game.”

On the challenge posed by Tranmere, Clark added: “They have made a fantastic start, they have been brilliant.

“We have always respected Tranmere.

“Les (Parry, Tranmere manager) has his players very fit.

“They have a fantastic work ethic and a real never-say-die spirit about them.

“We have had some very tough games with them during my tenure at the club and we are expecting nothing different. They will set their stall out to be tight so we will have to be patient.”
