Huddersfield Town weigh Naby Sarr gamble but Carel Eiting set for debut after Ajax loan

The central defender joined as a free agent in the summer after being released by Charlton Athletic.

Returning home for the summer meant the French-born Senegal international had to self isolate for a fortnight after joining the Terriers, and has only had two training sessions with his team-mates.

Corberan knows that is not really enough but with his team looking to kick-start Huddersfield's season after three defeats, may overlook that, particularly with captain Christopher Schindler likely to miss out. Much less of a risk, in Corberan's eyes, is selecting midfielder Eiting, on loan from Ajax.

"The situation with Carel Eiting is he completed a week training with the group, so that's positive, he can be available to the squad,” confirmed Corberan.

“With Sarr it's a little bit different situation, he was in isolation and couldn't prepare himself well for the games but at the same time he completed the last two training sessions with the group so we have to make a decision whether to take the risk to put him in the squad knowing he is not really prepared yet or to allow him to continue working with the team.

"Eiting is different because he was working with Ajax and did the pre-season. His football levels are ready but the Championship is not the same league, Ajax is not the same as Huddersfield so the player needs to adapt.”

Left-back Harry Toffolo has recovered from the injury he suffered at the weekend, but Schindler may miss out, and Danny Ward and Lewis O'Brien certainly will.

"There are no additional players who have important injuries,” said Corberan. “I think Toffolo his going to be ready, he trained on Thursday.

"Schindler's going to have a problem being involved because he has an injury in the hamstring but the most important thing is it isn't going to be an important (serious) injury and if he doesn't play, he should be ready next week.

"Unfortunately we are not going to have Danny Ward for the next game and may not for the next game either because his injury needs a bit more time.

“Lewis O'Brien is in the same situation he was last week, he's in the last part of his rehabilitation. During the treatment he had a problem which delayed his recovery a little bit and he hasn't been able to train with the group yet but I think he is in the last part of the injury.

“That's important for us because he's one of our important players.”

Centre-forward Fraizer Campbell played 28 minutes at Brentford last week, and Corberan says he is ready for a longer stint on Friday if needed.

“He had some injury problems from last season but he's completed a couple of weeks with us,” the Spaniard explained. “He's progressing well.

“The advice from the medical staff last week was to play 30-45 minutes.

“Now the advice is he can complete more minutes for us so he is an option.”
