Striker Danny Ward happy with return to Huddersfield Town

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN striker Danny Ward has professed his delight at returning to Yorkshire after signing for the Terriers for a second time.

The forward, 28, has become the first signing of the Carlos Corberan era after joining on a three-year deal after his contract with Cardiff City expired.

Bradford-born Ward, who joined Cardiff from Rotherham in June 2017 for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, committed his short-term future to the Bluebirds by seeing out the remainder of the protracted 2019-20 season, despite seeing his original deal run out at the end of June.

He said: “I am very happy. All my family are here in Yorkshire and Huddersfield, so it is the perfect move to be back home.

“I knew a lot of the people here. Then obviously (with) the new head coach coming in, finding out about his style of play, everything just seemed to click.

“It is class coming back and seeing familiar faces. Sometimes going to a new club can be daunting, but it always helps when you see the old faces.

“When I was here last, I was playing as a left winger, but I have always seen myself as a striker.

“In the five years since I was last here, I have been playing games in the Championship and in the Premier League as a striker, which has helped me loads.”

Ward’s arrival is likely to heighten speculation surrounding the future of Karlan Grant.

Meanwhile, Town midfielder Reece Brown has joined Peterborough United on loan for the 2020-21 season – his second stint at London Road.

Brown signed from Forest Green last summer but made just one competitive appearance – against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup – before being sent out on loan to the League One side in January.
