Huddersfield v Port Vale: Defeat to Town sowed seed for Izzy Brown's switch

The Chelsea teenager joined the Terriers on loan yesterday for the rest of the season after cutting short his stay at Rotherham United.

Brown was in the Millers side beaten 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium in September and he admits that night sowed a seed in his mind.

“This is the best club for me,” said Brown. “The way Huddersfield play is the way football should be played.

“The game I played we couldn’t get the ball off Huddersfield, and when they do lose the ball, they get it back really quickly. From what I saw, I wanted to play for a team like that.

“There was a bit of interest before the start of the season, but I decided to join Rotherham for some game time. That was meant to be a season-long loan, but got cut short. Now, I want to push up the Championship.”

Brown joins club-mate Kasey Palmer on loan at Town.

He could make his bow today in the FA Cup third round as the Terriers look to progress past the third round for the first time in three years.

On his new signing, Town’s head coach David Wagner said: “Just like Kasey Palmer, Izzy is another big, big English talent and it is great that Chelsea were so keen to send him to us.

“He is a very exciting, attacking player who can make things happen for us in the attacking areas and we are very excited to have him join our squad for the rest of the season.

“We have had a few injury problems in the wide positions, with Sean Scannell needing an operation and Joe Lolley only just returning from injury. Given this, bringing Izzy to the club is an important January move for us.”

Wagner is without Jonathan Hogg (thigh), Scannell (ankle) and Rajiv Van la Parra (knee) through injury.
