Namely that the Tigers are – in the unequivocal view of the full-back – ‘the best team in the league’, even though it will be either Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers or current leaders Portsmouth who top the table for Christmas.

Hull lost out 2-0 at home to Pompey on Friday in what was a forgettable night as the club’s winless streak extended to four matches, with Grant McCann’s side having lost their last three league games.

They now find themselves in third spot and will drop down a further place if Doncaster win or draw this evening.

Inactive on Boxing Day due to the Covid-19 situation at scheduled opponents Sunderland, the Tigers are due to return to the field at home to Lincoln City in a game of consequence at the top end of the division on December 29.

Should results go against them before then, Hull could find themselves down to fifth.

But Emmanuel believes that while form is temporary, class is permanent.

He said: “We should not be too down. The only reason we are down is because we know our quality and know we are the best team in the league and just need to show it (again) and I am sure we will be back very soon.

“I am not really concerned as we know the quality we have got in the changing room and we just need to put it right.

“Even the best teams in the world struggle at times to put the ball into the back of the net and it is the hardest thing to do. We will just stay focused and get better.

“I understand the concern (of some fans), but we need to stay positive. Ultimately, we feel we are the best team in the league and we know it.”

Signed by the club on a free transfer in August, the former Rotherham United loanee hit the heights during the club’s express start to the campaign, but he is the first to admit that he needs to rediscover the vibrant form which he showcased in the autumn.

The Londoner commented: “I appreciate all the love and support that the fans are giving me, but I need to do better.

“It is all right patting ourselves on the back like we went unbeaten at the start of the season and we can celebrate that, but at the same time, we need to do better – myself included.

“I know there is so much more in the tank and we need to get that out.”
