The 24-year-old’s arrival from west London is expected to be followed by a deal to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long on loan for the campaign.

Kane has spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Oxford United but is yet to make a first team appearance for Chelsea.

“I can’t wait to get playing after speaking to the head coach here,” said Kane. “He has told me this is a young, energetic group of players and I am looking forward to working in this environment.”

Nigel Adkins last week signed David Milinkovic, Reece Burke and Jordy de Wijs last week.
