Hull City manager Grant McCann delighted by Keane Lewis-Potter’s development

The 19-year-old’s breakthrough into his hometown club’s first team last season was one of the few success stories of an otherwise forgettable campaign which saw the Tigers relegated from the Championship.

And, the versatile attacker has gone from strength to strength in League One this term, netting three decisive goals in his first 10 appearances of 2020-21.

Then, on Tuesday night, he scored within three minutes of arriving from the substitutes’ bench at Bristol Rovers, sparking a second-half turnaround as City fought back to win 3-1 and climb up to second place in the table.

Unsurprisingly, Hull head coach Grant McCann is thrilled by Lewis-Potter’s progress. He said: “Without drumming up too much hype, we feel as if we’ve got a really special talent and we want to continue to develop him.

“I knew about him before I came in here. I knew he’d scored a lot of goals in under-23s and under-18s football.

“But, we took a wee bit of time. He came down here and got used to it then we sent him back to the 23s just to give him a kick up the back-side, because when you come to this training ground, everything is laid on a plate for you.

“But, he’s taken everything in his stride and he’s just gone up and up and up a level, we’re really pleased with his progress.

“He’s doing great, we are really pleased to have him, his development over the last six or seven months has been excellent - the way his body has changed and how he has come out of his shell a little bit and been more vocal around the training ground.

“He’s a pleasure to work with.”

Lewis-Potter and his City team-mates head to Swindon Town on Saturday, knowing that victory on the road could see the Tigers re-claim the top spot in League One.
