Hull City need to change away form '˜as soon as possible', concedes Marco Silva

HEAD COACH Marco Silva insists Hull City have not got the rewards on the road that their performances have warranted since he took charge of the club.

The Tigers have lost five of six away games in league and cup since the Portuguese arrived in England during the first week of 2017, their only positive result being a goalless draw at Manchester United.

That point from the February 1 trip to Old Trafford is the only time Hull have avoided defeat in a dozen consecutive matches away from the KCOM Stadium, but Silva believes his side, who travel to Everton tomorrow, are capable of ending that sorry run.

“In some games we have shown progress, but we have not got the best result,” said the Hull chief. “Only against Manchester United did we get a good result, the others not.

“Our last performance against Leicester (a 3-1 loss) was not the best and the result not good. We need to improve in this situation.”

Mitigation for that sorry away record under Silva is how those half dozen outings have included two trips to Old Trafford, plus others to Chelsea and Arsenal.

Nevertheless, there can be little doubt that Hull’s record outside the East Riding is undermining efforts to get out of trouble.

“Our home form is very, very good and this gives us confidence,” said Silva, whose six KCOM outings have brought five wins and a draw.

“But we need to change (our away record) as soon as possible. We have 10 games in the Premier League and it is five at home and five away as well.”

Evandro will again be missing for the Tigers after failing to recover from the calf problem that has kept the playmaker out of the last three fixtures.

Michael Dawson also remains out and will be joined on the sidelines by Oumar Niasse, who cannot play under the terms of his loan switch from Everton.

Marcus Henriksen has returned to training this week, but the game may come too early for the midfielder following his recovery from a dislocated shoulder.

Everton have had their own problems this week, with Romelu Lukaku going public with his refusal to sign a new contract, citing a desire to play in the Champions League and win titles.

Manager Ronald Koeman made clear his upset at the comments yesterday, adding: “Of course I am not happy about that interview. If Everton is not a club with a lot of ambition I would not be manager.”
