Clucas played in Hull's 3-2 Sky Bet Championship defeat by Wolves at the KCOM Stadium just hours after the Tigers rebuffed a second offer from Sean Dyche.

Slutsky has seen a large turnover of players at Hull and is keen for no more departures before the transfer window closes.

He said: "For me it is very important to keep a player like Sam Clucas because he is a leader."We spoke with him about his situation but he's a really very professional guy and he has a long-term contract with the club.

"We built the team in a very difficult time. One more out can break the whole team, I'm very nervous about the situation."

Slutsky also faces a nervous wait over top scorer Abel Hernandez who was carried off on a stretcher late in the game with an Achilles injury.

He said: "Tomorrow he will have a scan but it looks very serious. We keep our fingers crossed. Now we are waiting and thinking maybe everything will be good. I will think about the situation after we get the result."

Slutsky could be forced into the transfer market and has been linked with a move for Ahmed Musa, who he worked with at CSKA Moscow.

He said of the Leicester forward: "I worked with Musa for five years, I know him and he knows me."

Wolves kept up their impressive start to the season with goals from Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Nouha Dicko to make it three wins from three for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Hull suffered their first defeat of the campaign with their captain Michael Dawson heading in to level in the first half and David Meyler scoring a penalty late into second-half stoppage-time.

Wolves took an early lead when Neves cut in from the left and curled a 30-yard shot into the far corner but Hull equalised when the visitors failed to clear Kamil Grosicki's ball from the left and Dawson headed in from close range.

Jota put the visitors back in front when he fired into the roof of the net at the far post after Bright Enobakhare had slid the ball across goal.

Dicko slid the ball under Allan McGregor in the last minute of normal time but Hull ensured a tense finish in the ninth minute of stoppage time when Meyler scored with a penalty awarded for a push on Adama Diomande.
