Hull City reacton: Marco Silva full of praise for Tigers in defeat

After losing 2-0 at Old Trafford, Hull won 2-1 last night in the second leg of their EFL League Cup semi-final, the Tigers going down 3-2 on aggregate.

“It is important always to win the games, but the last result in the away game (was a) poor performance for us,” he said.

“(Last night was) a good performance from our players, a good performance as a team, a good spirit, good attitude and in many moments we controlled the game.

“We put problems for a big team like Man United, it’s important for us.

“It’s impossible this moment to stay really, really happy, but okay. Maybe the last goal in Old Trafford in the last minutes made the difference in these two games.”

Counterpart Jose Mourinho cut short a post-match interview. “I just want to say congratulations to my players because it was a difficult road to be in the final and we’re in the final,” he said.

“I don’t want to say anything else because it’s enough. I’m calm, I behaved on the bench, no punishment so no more words.”

At that point, just 30 seconds after the interview had begun, Mourinho walked away.

Tom Huddlestone’s controversial penalty had put the hosts ahead on the night before Oumar Niasse secured victory with his first goal for the club after Paul Pogba had equalised.

United midfielder Michael Carrick was downbeat despite the visitors securing a Wembley final with Southampton on February 26.

“I’m just disappointed to be honest, with the way we played and losing the game,” Carrick said. “It’s a strange feeling in many ways, we wanted to keep our run going and our form going.

“We didn’t play well at all. Of course we are delighted to be there (in the final), we’ll shake it off and bounce into the next game.

“We expected a tough game, we expected them to come at us because they had to. We just didn’t play well for a number of reasons and we’re disappointed. We don’t like losing but we can take a final from it, so we are delighted to be there.

“We’re still very, very disappointed.”
