The Northern Ireland international scored twice in four minutes during a frantic opening at MK Dons to help Hull claim their fifth consecutive win in all competitions.

Magennis opened the scoring on eight minutes before MK Dons equalised three minutes later through Stephen Walker. The lead was restored by Magennis one minute later before James Scott’s second-half strike sealed the win for the visitors.

“Magennis has been excellent this season for us,” said McCann.

“Whoever plays up there with him, he has been really, really good. It was nice to see him get a couple of goals for the hard work he has put in this season.

“He scored before he went away on the international break, scored for Northern Ireland and scored again today.

“The form of the front players is really good and hopefully that can continue because that is going to be key for us this season.”

Hull went top as they took advantage of Peterborough United’s slip-up against Blackpool.

City travel to Ipswich Town on Tuesday night for another crunch fixture.

“It will be another good game for us,” added McCann.

“They are flying high in the league also. It is going to be a tough week for us.

“It is a big week and we have started it quite well, so let’s see if we can follow it up on Tuesday.”
