Hull City v Fleetwood Town - Grant McCann targets ‘decent run’ in FA Cup

The Northern Irishman has conceded that he will have to rest a couple of regular starters who are not 100 per cent, but still expects to be able to put out a starting XI that he believes is capable of avenging last month’s 4-1 league defeat to the Fishermen.

“We want to try and have a decent run in the FA Cup just like we did in the League Cup. It’s a tough game on Saturday, but we’d love nothing better than to have a nice run,” said McCann.

“Not having a game on Tuesday night will give us the chance to be strong [against Fleetwood]. As strong as we can be, really. There will be some changes but it won’t be wholesale.

“It’s just some personnel changes, the opportunity to give a couple a rest. There are a couple of niggles that we won’t risk.

“Most of the team that played on Monday [for Hull’s Under-23s] will have an opportunity.

“It gives James Scott, Alfie Jones, Regan Slater, Brandon Fleming, Tommy Mayer, all these boys the opportunity to play and get some minutes into their legs.”

Slater and fellow loanee Hakeeb Adelakun are both available to feature having been given permission to play in the competition by their parent clubs.

Meanwhile, McCann has revealed that he is enjoying City’s positive start to life back in League One.

“We’ve started well, so we’re all feeling good, feeling confident, the players have been excellent, and that does make you feel better, of course,” he added.
