Brady is eager to learn from Phelan’s Hull input

ANY doubts that it was worth Steve Bruce flying to Paris and spending 12 hours in the French capital on transfer deadline day to get the deal to sign Dame N’Doye over the line were swiftly banished by the Senegal international’s home debut for Hull City.

Not only did the 29-year-old striker create the opener against Aston Villa with a delightful piece of control and vision, but he went on to net the second goal which enabled the Tigers to breathe a little more easily.

Hull fans will be hoping for more of the same from the club’s only recruit in the recent transfer window when QPR head to the KC Stadium tomorrow.

However, where N’Doye may have been the only addition to the squad, Bruce also made one other capture earlier this year that may well go on to make the biggest impact of all.

Mike Phelan, fresh from leaving Norwich City, started his new job as Bruce’s assistant on the day the Hull manager flew to France and it is clear the former England international has already made his mark.

“It has been good with Mike coming in,” said Robbie Brady, a former junior at Old Trafford when Phelan was also at the Premier League club.

“He has got some great ideas and it is always good to see that, especially with the background he has had.

“I worked with him at Manchester United, first at a younger age and then before I left I had a bit more to do with him.

“He is a good all-round coach. His background speaks for itself with the players he has been with in the past.

“I am happy he is here and I am looking forward to performing for him and everyone else here at Hull.”

Phelan’s arrival has coincided with an upturn in results.

In his first game, Hull came within a whisker of taking all three points off Manchester City before James Milner rescued a point for the Premier League champions.

Then, three days later, the Tigers beat Villa on a night when N’Doye announced himself to the English game with a starring role.

With home games against fellow strugglers QPR and Sunderland sandwiching a trip to Stoke City a week tomorrow, Brady knows that run needs to continue.

“I have all the confidence in the world that we will keep digging in and be going nowhere but up the table,” said Brady.

“Everyone has been buzzing and we want to kick on now.”
