Bruce retains hunger as Wolves visit Hull

The Tigers chief was offered the manager’s job by Wolverhampton Wanderers last February only for the Midlands club to have a last-minute change of heart.

At the time, the decision – which was followed by the Molineux board handing Terry O’Connor the reins – came as a blow to Bruce, who along with Neil Warnock and Alan Curbishley had been interviewed for the vacancy.

But now the Hull chief insists there are no regrets as he looks to cement his side’s place in the play-off places.

He said: “It was a strange one but that is football sometimes. The job was mine but then the offer was withdrawn a few hours later.

“To me, it is in the past and that’s that though what I will say is just how much I am enjoying it at Hull.

“When I came here in the summer, it was a big call as I had spent most of the last 10 years in the Premier League.

“But my enthusiasm is as high as it has ever been. This is a great club and I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of getting us out of the Championship and back into the Premier League.”

Hull host Wolves tonight sitting in fifth place, but their promotion credentials will be tested with tonight’s game being followed by a trip to leaders Cardiff at the weekend.

Hull, who have re-signed Robbie Brady on loan for a month from Manchester United, have injury worries over Liam Rosenior and Alex Bruce ahead of taking on a Wolves outfit sitting four points behind in ninth place.
