Bullard chasing £2.5m pay-off

Jimmy Bullard is believed to be seeking up to £2.5m in compensation from Hull City after formally beginning an appeal against his sacking.

The Tigers’ record signing’s £48,000-per-week contract, which was due to run until the summer of 2013, was terminated last month following an alleged incident on the club’s pre-season training camp in Slovenia.

Details of the incident have remained sketchy but Bullard, who joined Ipswich Town late last month, and his legal team this week declared their intention to appeal against the player’s sacking.

It is understood Bullard, who has begun his legal proceedings with the Football League and is hoping they will set up a commission to hear arguments from both parties, refuses to accept the grounds for his sacking and is seeking loss of earnings from the Tigers.

That would, basically, involve the discrepancy between his current wage at Ipswich of around £20,000 per week with what he would have earned at Hull – which could be as high as £2.5m.

Both parties have steadfastly refused to comment on the issue since Bullard was first suspended shortly after the return from Slovenia.
