The 28-year-old defender yesterday became Steve Bruce’s third signing of the summer as the Tigers plan for the new campaign in the top flight.

Hull have paid Birmingham City an undisclosed fee, believed to be between £2m and £3m, for the defender who has Premier League experience with West Brom and Aston Villa.

He joins George Boyd and Maynor Figueroa in joining the KC Stadium side and Davies is relishing the chance to return to the top flight.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here.

“I feel that I’m joining Hull City at an exciting time and the chance to play in the Barclays Premier League was also a huge attraction.

“It’s something that I’ve been lucky enough to do before and I wanted to get back to that level.

“Hopefully I can help this team to have a good season and push as high up the table as possible. I can’t wait for Chelsea on the first day of the season now.”

Davies is unlikely to be the last summer acquisition at the KC Stadium, with manager Bruce having a transfer budget of £10m-£15m at his disposal.

Bruce is known to be particularly keen to add a goalkeeper and a centre-forward to his promotion squad. It is understood Hull and Leicester have so far been unable to agree a fee for Kasper Schmeichel, leaving Bruce to run the rule over the likes of Allan McGregor, Ross Turnbull and Costel Pantilimon.

Huddersfield Town have signed striker Martin Paterson following his release by Burnley.

The 26-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the Championship club, who have also completed the signing of Wolves winger Adam Hammill.

New Sheffield United manager David Weir has completed his first four signings.

The Blades have signed Walsall striker Fabien Brandy, Watford midfielder Stephen McGinn, and defenders Sean McGinty and Jasper Johns – who were on the books of Manchester United and Everton respectively – as Weir reshapes his squad.

Weir said: “We are delighted that deals for all four of the lads have been completed in time for them to start pre-season training with the rest of the squad and we are confident that we can develop their talents, individually and collectively, for the benefit of Sheffield United.”

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder David Prutton has signed a new one-year contract extension.

Barnsley defender Martin Cranie has signed a new two-year deal with the Championship club.

Striker David McDaid has left York City by mutual consent after a five-month spell at Bootham Crescent.
