Davies: We’re working hard to find remedy

Back-to-back 3-0 losses in which the Tigers were dreadful in the second half has sparked fears that Yorkshire’s sole top flight representative is heading back to the Championship.

Davies, however, is adamant nothing could be further from the truth ahead of today’s daunting trip to the reigning Premier League champions.

“Fans will say the result will ruin their weekend but it ruined mine as well,” said the Hull captain when asked about last weekend’s loss at home to Newcastle United.

“They are not enjoying it but we are not enjoying it, either. Ultimately, they have got to realise that, as players, we want to play in the Premier League.

“We don’t want to go back to playing in the Championship, no disrespect. We want to be playing at places like Manchester City, like we are this weekend. We want to play against the best teams and the best players.

“If fans think we are surrendering and we are waving the white flag now, that’s not the case. We are working hard every day on the training pitch to find a remedy to put things right.

“Hopefully, with the breath of fresh air that (new assistant manager) Mike Phelan coming in has brought, he could be the catalyst for us doing well.”

Phelan, a former assistant of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford for five years, arrived at City on Monday, just a few weeks after leaving Norwich City in the wake of being overlooked for the top job.

Davies added: “The intensity to the training has been a little bit higher and the duration a little bit longer, too. He gave us that idea that if we jump on board with him, we can start moving up the league.”
