Dominant Tigers must apply finish

‘ONE-NIL to the Hull City,’ may not quite trip off the tongue as well as the song made famous by Arsenal fans during George Graham’s reign at Highbury.

But there can be no doubt after three successive wins by a solitary goal that the Tigers have developed a knack for edging tight games.

Manager Nigel Pearson has understandably been pleased by the best run of his reign. Nevertheless, the City chief wants his side to develop a more ruthless streak in front of goal.

He said: “The reality is we want to put games to bed a bit sooner and have more comfort with our wins. To do that we have to score more goals. Games that we have won, we have been dominant in all of them but not scored the goals our play has warranted.

“Whenever that is the case there is always the threat of the opposition hitting you on the break.

“Last season our biggest problem was we drew too many games.

“If this season goes the same as it has gone so far, ending with more than 50 per cent wins, we will be doing all right.”
