FT Burnley 1 Hull City 0: Paterson nets winner for Clarets

HULL CITY slumped to a sixth straight defeat against Burnley to end 2011 on a low, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

The Tigers had more than enough possession to claim at least a point but instead it was Martin Paterson’s 34th minute strike that settled the game in the Clarets’ favour.

Hull dominated the second half and should have drawn level just ten minutes after the restart when Andy Dawson found Robert Koren, who could only sidefoot wide from ten yards out.

Koren also shot wide after being picked out by Cameron Stewart before a thunderbolt shot from Robbie Brady left Clarets defender Ben Mee needing extensive treatment after the ball struck his head.

Richard Garcia also had a late opportunity to equalise when picked out by Dawson but shot wide.

Burnley’s best chance came when Martin Paterson weaved his way through only to see his shot blocked by Adriano Basso.
