FT: Hull City 1-1 Leyton Orient - Bruce relieved to be in hat

Nick Proschwitz spared Hull’s blushes with a last-gasp equaliser to force an FA Cup third round replay against Leyton Orient.

The £2.6m summer signing netted just his third goal of the campaign with only seconds left to cancel out David Mooney’s second-half header.

An upset looked on the cards when Mooney nodded in his ninth of the season with 12 minutes to play and the Os were worthy of their lead.

But it was snatched away from them three minutes into stoppage time when German striker Proschwitz headed in Tom Cairney’s cross.

Cox delivered from the right for Mooney to head home from six yards out.

Lisbie headed wide in Orient’s next attack and Proschwitz volleyed off target late on as it looked like City’s final chance had gone.

But Cairney had one more pinpoint cross to deliver and Proschwitz was on hand to provide the decisive touch.

Hull manager Steve Bruce said: “If I’m honest, we could do without the replay but we are in the hat for the fourth round and that hasn’t happened very often for this club in the past 20 years.

“The one thing for certain is that we can’t be any worse when we play the replay down at Orient than we were on Saturday.

“We probably only had three players who got anywhere near their level. One of the only positives to come from it is that a lot of them needed a game and you could see that vividly.

“We had an experienced team out there that didn’t perform at all. The two centre halves and the goalkeeper were probably the only performers in a team of eleven. That is why we struggled in the game.

“We wanted to win the match, but we’re at least still in the cup.”
