Hull City 0 Newcastle 3: Tigers slide into trouble

Remy Cabella’s goal shortly before half-time and Sammy Ameobi’s 50th-minute drive followed by a late effort from substitute Yoan Gouffran gave John Carver his first win in charge of Newcastle at the fifth attempt.

Steve Bruce made four changes for the Tigers, bringing back Abel Hernandez, Andy Robertson, Gaston Ramirez and Nikica Jelavic for son Alex Bruce, James Chester, Stephen Quinn and Sone Aluko.

It was Michael Dawson who went close for Hull in the early stages, flashing a header wide from Ramirez’s free-kick.

Fellow central defender Curtis Davies then had his header blocked on the line by a combination of goalkeeper Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini before Newcastle struck in the 41st minute.

Robertson attempted to play the ball inside to Dawson from near the edge of his area, Cabella intercepted and with his third touch drove a swerving left-footer inside Allan McGregor’s right-hand post.

Hull fans thought they had equalised in stoppage time but Ahmed Elmohamady was rightly booked for punching the free-kick from Ramirez into the net.

it got worse for the Tigers when the defence backed off and Ameobi let fly a left-foot 30-yarder inside McGregor’s left-hand post.

Coloccini almost sliced a clearance into his own net and the onrushing Jelavic could only knock the ball back across the six-yard area after Krul had diverted Ramirez’s cross.

Bruce rang the changes but Newcastle made it 3-0 in the 78th minute when Gouffran cut inside and saw his shot from just outside the area deflected off the left boot of Elmohamady past McGregor to seal the points for the visitors.
