Hull City 1 Preston 0: Gerrard grabs Tigers winner

ANTHONY Gerrard ensured Hull City went in ahead at the break with a bullet header on the stroke of half-time, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

The Tigers defender took advantage of slack marking by the Preston defence to score in the 45th minute with a bullet header from a corner.

It was enough to beat rock bottom North End and extend City’s impressive form to just one defeat in 17 games.

Hull were again the better side after the break with Robert Koren going close and Sean St Ledger needing to clear from underneath his own crossbar after Matty Fryatt had lobbed the ball over Iain Turner.

Preston’s best moment came when Ian Ashbee chipped a delightful pass for Eddie Johnson just before the hour only for the striker to make a hash of trying to control the ball.
