Hull City 2 Leicester City 1: Barmby praises patient Tigers

Andy Dawson replaced left-back Joe Dudgeon and Paul McKenna returned from suspension in place of Robert Brady, who was starting a three-match ban after being dismissed at Southampton.

McKenna’s return saw Tom Cairney drop to the bench, Brady having been a substitute in midweek.

Pearson, who took the Foxes to a fifth-placed finish in his first spell at the club, made one change from the side which had defeated Blackpool in midweek, Neil Danns replacing Paul Gallagher.

Apart from the taunting of Pearson, this was a quiet affair until the 28th minute.

Then Foxes captain Matt Mills was controversially dismissed for a sliding challenge on Aaron Mclean, who had been put through into the area by Cameron Stewart.

It looked a fair challenge asMclean delayed shooting but a penalty was awarded and Matty Fryatt sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way from the spot.

Leicester immediately substituted striker Jermaine Beckford for central defender Sean St Ledger.

Leicester were back on level terms after Peter Gulacsi beat away a shot from David Nugent only to see Paul Konchesky collect the rebound and curl a low shot inside the far post in the 40th minute.

Schmeichel made fine saves from Stewart and Dawson after the break but Leicester, employing two banks of four, were pretty comfortable as Hull struggled to break them down.

The breakthrough finally came for the Tigers in the 87th minute when Rosenoir squared the ball and Koren let fly from outside the area, giving Schmeichel no chance as he dived to his left.

“I had all the confidence in the lads, I thought we were patient because it is difficult to play against 10 men,” he said.

“I am proud of them for what they did today. Even with 11 men I thought we were the better side.

“There was more pressure on Nigel coming back than us, there was no major pressure on us.

“The only thing we wanted to do was win the game for us and for the fans to get one over the former manager.”
