Hull City: Scotland failed to live up to billing: Robertson

HULL CITY and Scotland defender Andrew Robertson has admitted that the Tartan Army failed to live up to their potential during Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat to England at Celtic Park.

The Three Lions left Glasgow with the bragging rights, thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney (2) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with former Dundee United left-back Robertson having the consolation of scoring his first international goal for the Tartan Army.

It inspired some fleeting hopes of an unlikely comeback, but England emerged as comfortable victors.

Robertson, who joined Hull for £1.75m in the summer, said: “It was a tough match for us but we never really got going while England were on top of their game. “If we had got going we may have caused them problems.

“England have players from the top four teams in the Premier League throughout their side, we only had two or three from the division but that’s not the issue. “We just didn’t play as well as we could have.”

Scotland return to action in March 2015 when they host Gibraltar in a Euro 2016 qualifying encounter.

Another Tigers player who found the net on Tuesday night was Robbie Brady, who hit his first two goals for Republic of Ireland in the 4-1 friendly win over the USA.

For his part, Brady was just delighted the Irish got back on track after Friday’s loss in Glasgow.

He said: “It was good to get my first home goals, I’m over the moon with that.

“It was good to get our minds off the bad result we had the other night. It was good to finish the year on a good result and hopefully we can get ourselves together.”

Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to the Scots leaves them level with Germany and Scotland on seven points, while Poland lead Group D with 10 points.

Brady added: “Hopefully we can get ourselves together and go and get the points we need against Poland.”
