Hull City swoop for double transfer with Long set to arrive

HULL CITY'S recruitment continues to gather pace with the capture of Chelsea full-back Todd Kane likely to be followed today by the arrival of George Long, the Sheffield United goalkeeper.

The Tigers have agreed a season-long loan deal for 24-year-old Kane with a view to making the deal permanent next summer, when the defender’s contract at Stamford Bridge runs out.

Long is expected to be reunited with Nigel Adkins at the KCOM Stadium after travelling to the East Riding earlier this week for a medical.

Less happily for City, however, Harry Wilson has opted not to return to Hull on loan despite Adkins being keen to re-sign the Liverpool winger. Instead, Wilson has moved to Derby County to sign for Frank Lampard.

Kane’s capture along with the imminent arrival of Long represents a welcome turn of events for Adkins on the back of three new faces arriving last week.

David Milinkovic, Reece Burke and Jordy de Wijs joined City during the trip to Portugal, whose only previous signing ahead of leaving England had been Eric Lichaj.

Kane will provide competition for Lichaj at right-back in a defence that is being rebuilt by Adkins following the departure of Michael Dawson over the summer along with last season’s loan trio of Ola Aina, Michael Hector and Fikayo Tomori.

The 24-year-old boasts Championship experience with Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest, two of nine career loan spells. He ended last season with Oxford United in League One.

“I can’t wait to get playing after speaking to the head coach here,” said Kane. “He has told me this is a young, energetic group of players and I am looking forward to working in this environment.”

Long, meanwhile, has fallen out of favour at Bramall Lane under Chris Wilder and spent last term on loan at AFC Wimbledon. Adkins worked with the 24-year-old during his own one-year stint with the Blades.

Huddersfield Town, meanwhile, have agreed a three-year deal with highly-rated teenager Matty Daly.

The 17-year-old was part of the England Under-17s side that reached the sem-finals of the European Championships in May. Daly marked his first team bow last week with a goal in the friendly win at Bury. He has, however, missed the trip to Germany with a hamstring injury.
