Hull City on tracks of DJ instead of Fraizer

AFTER missing out on signing one Campbell, Hull City have their sights on another.

The Tigers’ hopes of signing striker Fraizer Campbell from Sunderland have been derailed by a bid from Championship leaders Cardiff.

But second-placed Hull – anxious to boost their forward line amid the absence through injury of Sone Aluko – have entered the race to sign Queens Park Rangers striker DJ Campbell.

They face stiff competition for his signature from Crystal Palace, although Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy appears to have conceded defeat in his efforts to entice Campbell back to East Anglia, where he excelled on loan earlier this season.

Hull’s hopes of winning the race could be boosted by manager Steve Bruce’s association with the player. Bruce took Campbell to Birmingham in 2006 and is a big admirer of his capabilities.

Hull yesterday re-signed Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale on loan until the end of the season.

Stockdale, who played five games during a loan spell at the KC Stadium in November and December, could be back in the side to face Peterborough United at London Road today.

“I’m very pleased to be back,” said Stockdale. “I can’t wait to get going again and help the club to continue our push for promotion.”

Peterborough are hopeful the match will go ahead after the London Road surface yesterday survived an inspection.

Another inspection is planned for this morning, and Peterborough have asked their supporters to volunteer to help clear away the snow.

If the game goes ahead, Nick Proschwitz and Jay Simpson could continue up front for Hull having been paired together in the midweek FA Cup win at Leyton Orient.

Liam Rosenior is likely to continue in place of winger Ahmed Elmohamady, who has been recalled from a season-long loan by Sunderland.

On-loan Manchester United duo Scott Wootton and Davide Petrucci could make their home debuts for Peterborough, but striker Lee Tomlin completes a three-match ban and centre-half Gaby Zakuani is away with DR Congo at the African Nations Cup.
