Ipswich Town 0 Hull City 3: Comprehensive away win cements Tigers’ place at top of League 1

League leaders Hull City bolstered their promotion hopes with a comprehensive 3-0 win at fellow high-flyers Ipswich Town.

Former Leeds United and Barnsley forward Mallik Wilks and Josh Magennis put the visitors in charge before Tom Eaves wrapped it up to give the Tigers their sixth away win of the League One campaign.

It took Wilks just 100 seconds to get City up and running when he found time and space to slot home from the edge of the box.

James Norwood had a header blocked from a Luke Chambers cross as Ipswich responded well.

Jacob Greaves bravely blocked a fierce Keanan Bennett shot with his face on 23 minutes, before Matt Ingram saved comfortably from Norwood.

Greaves headed wide from Callum Elder’s 31st minute corner, before City had a penalty shout waved away after Wilks went down easily.

Ingram made a great reflex save to keep out former Huddersfield Town frontman Emyr Huws on 37 minutes, before Hakeeb Adelakun had a shot deflected into the hands of Tomas Holy seconds later.

Magennis doubled City’s lead after he got on the end of Reece Burke’s cross to score from close range in first half stoppage time.

George Honeyman nearly robbed Holy of the ball after the Ipswich shot-stopper got in a tangle on 52 minutes.

Magennis volleyed over ten minutes later for Grant McCann’s side after being picked out by Josh Emmanuel.

Wilks had a shot well saved after he easily beat Luke Woolfenden ten minutes later.

But sub Eaves secured the points with a composed finish on 77 minutes after Jack Lankester gave the ball away.
