Ipswich Town 1 Hull City 1: Tigers boss praises Simpson

Two of the form teams in the Championship could not be separated when Hull City and Ipswich Town met at Portman Road.

Jay Simpson came off the bench to rescue a point for Hull at Ipswich in the npower Championship.

Ipswich had looked to be heading for a deserved win when Jason Scotland netted in the 58th minute.

But Simpson, making his first appearance since January, nodded in a delightful header five minutes from the end to extent Hull’s unbeaten run in the league to eight matches.

Tigers boss Nigel Pearson said of Simpson: “It was a clever header for the goal, with his back to goal. He had a lot to do, to manipulate the ball like that.

“Jay’s had a frustrating time. He’s been out of the side and it was a good response for him.

“He’s had to be patient and probably feels he hasn’t had a fair crack of the whip, but it illustrates that you need a squad ethic to be successful.

“If you aspire to succeed you need a group of players who are prepared to play for each other and we’ve certainly got that.”
