Pearson lauds Allams’ backing for Hull’s push

Pearson has paid tribute to the investment and vision of Hull’s owners, the Allam family, in a week when the Tigers strengthened their squad with a combined £3.5m deal for Sunderland midfielder David Meyler and Manchester United winger Robbie Brady.

Hull’s latest additions come with the club second in the Championship table and on course for automatic promotion after a run of eight league games without defeat.

Hull spent two years in the Premier League between 2008 and 2010 – their first campaigns in the top flight of English football – but Pearson, who was chairman at City for six years, told the Yorkshire Post: “This is probably the best team that’s been put together at Hull, the best team in the club’s history.

“The owners have invested a lot of money in the squad and at Hull you’re talking about one of the highest wage bills in the Championship, if not the biggest. They’ve spent another bucketload this week and they’ve got a really good chance of going up.

“It’s great for a city like Hull to have Premier League football and I’m really pleased to see how the season’s panning out. I’d be surprised if they’re not very close at the end of the season.”

Hull face a Yorkshire derby at home to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow and manager Steve Bruce is grateful that his squad has suffered no fresh injury worries in the build-up to the fixture.

Pearson said: “They’ve come into the window with a quality squad and they’ve committed to adding to it so they’re in really good shape.

“It (promotion) is in their hands at the moment and I’ll be delighted if they do it.”

Pearson, who has worked as a 
director at Derby County and Leeds United and is currently owner of Hull FC rugby league club, was talking during the launch of his new business venture in Yorkshire.

He is behind Pro Sports Recruitment (PSR), a company based in Leeds and Hull which offers to source senior and low-level staff for sports clubs across the country.

“The staff at clubs range from the ticket office right up to your chief executives and chairmen,” Pearson said.

“This company will specialise in using our contacts and an extensive database to find the right people for the right position, in the discreet way that professional clubs like to operate.”
