Proschwitz ready for swift debut after £2m Tigers deal

GERMAN striker Nick Proschwitz will be officially unveiled as a Hull City player today.

Tigers chief Steve Bruce has beaten off interest from the Bundesliga, Italy and Austria to sign the 6ft 3in frontman, who scored 17 goals in 33 apearances for SC Paderborn in the German second division in 2011-12, in a £2m deal.

Proschwitz, 25, has agreed a three-year contract and Tigers supporters are expected to get their first glimpse of him in action in tomorrow night’s friendly at Grimsby Town.

Proschiwitz’s arrival takes Bruce’s number of summer captures to three following the signings of goalkeepers Ben Amos and Eldin Jakupovic, with the KC Stadium chief also hoping to land free agent Abdoulaye Faye.

On Proschwitz’s decision to plump for Hull – after spending a day with the club during their recent training camp in Portugal – his agent, Lars-Wilhelm Baumbarten, said: “There was an offer on the table from the German first division, but he has decided to move on and to experience football in England.

“He was impressed by Hull and Steve Bruce and he is very happy to be joining the club.”

Former Leeds United defender Alex Bruce, son of City manager Steve, and Greek triallist midfielders Andreas Lambropoulos and Vasilios Koutsiankoulis featured in Hull’s 5-0 friendly victory at Winterton on Tuesday evening.

QPR are reportedly willing to subsidise a loan move for midfielder Joey Barton – wanted by Sheffield Wednesday and several other Championship clubs.

Rangers are said to be prepared to continue paying a large percentage of his salary to facilitate a move for Barton.

Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with Barton, suspended for the first 12 matches of the 2012-13 season, with Owls manager Dave Jones admitting earlier this week he would be interested in signing the 29-year-old.

Huddersfield Town have been linked with a move for Cardiff City’s out-of-favour defender Anthony Gerrard.

The former Hull City player has been left behind to train in South Wales, with the rest of his team-mates in Switzerland on a pre-season training camp.

Former Town defender Nathan Clarke has signed a two-year-deal with League One side Leyton Orient.

Harrogate Town have signed former Bradford City midfielder Luke Dean on a free transfer.

The 21-year old was released by the League Two side at the end of last season after coming through the club’s centre of excellence.
