The 28-year-old, a key figure in the Tigers’ promotion to the Premier League in 2013, has just eight months remaining on his existing deal. With first-team opportunities having been limited for much of this and last season, Quinn’s future has been shrouded in uncertainty.

However, after featuring in seven of Hull’s last eight games, the former Sheffield United man appears ready to commit his future to the club.

After revealing his agent has been in talks with the Hull hierarchy in recent weeks, Quinn said: “I would like to stay.

“I have enjoyed my time at Hull in the last two-and-a-half years.

“They have been a success and I feel like I have contributed well to the cause and to a successful period.

“I am hoping I can get a deal done and, hopefully, stay here for at least another couple of years.”

Asked how close an agreement was, Quinn replied: “My agent and the club are still in negotiations, but hopefully, they will come to some sort of conclusion and we will get it signed.”

Quinn started just four league games last season but he was selected for the FA Cup final.

He added: “Going back to the summer, I thought I was going to be a big part of it.

“I was disappointed that I wasn’t playing as many games, but I kept my head down and fought to get back in the team.

“I do want to play more football, but I don’t think anyone can clarify that you’ll be playing every week. That won’t be in any contract. It is up to me to force my way in and stay there.

“I feel like I deserve to be here. I have worked hard and I was happy when the club came to me and talked about a new deal.

“Hopefully, we can get it over the line now.”

Meanwhile, scans have confirmed Michael Dawson has, as feared, torn his hamstring and is likely to be out for up to five weeks.

He joins Mohamed Diame on the sidelines along with the suspended Tom Huddlestone.
